Since 2002, Project Ahimsa has given 80 grants to programs in 14 countries impacting 10,000 children.
Programs as far away as Sri Lanka, where civil war has killed hundreds of thousands of Tamils, special needs children compose and choreograph their own shows that speak of unity between rival ethnic factions.
In Nicaragua, an entire community is transformed when a music program make a school into a nationally known music ensemble.
In India, children who were destined for life of ragpicking and making a few cents a day, have been uplifted by local NGO Manav Sadhna, and thanks to a grant from Project Ahimsa, are on their way to successful lives, boosted by the self-discipline and confidence they've received from music education and performance.
For the past two years Project Ahimsa has collected recordings from these kids and combined them with other artists around the world to create a CD compilation entitled
Global Lingo.
The album features songs like Project Ahimsa grantee Youth Movement Records' Coco Pelia who sings about inner beauty with the song Any Day Now. Other tracks feature Ahimsa youth from the Ahemdebad Blind School, Empower the Children, Ritmos en Los Barrios, and tracks from Michael Franti, Funkadesi, GOONDA, J Boogie and Rocky Dawuni who was recently featured on the album Playing for Change on a track with U2's Bono.
The album, mixed by Bollygirl & dimmSummer,
launched today on iTunes and
all of Project Ahimsa's proceeds from the album go directly back into music education programs.

Early reviews:
Very often such "albums with a cause" fall by the wayside due to mediocre content with good intentions. On Global Lingo, both music and message are beautifully intertwined, a no-lose situation on many levels.
- Huffington Post
The entire album is an inspired mix of cultures, musical styles (from hip-hop to reggae to Afrofunk to bhangra to house to acoustic folk), and uplifting, positive messages.
- SF Weekly Blog
